Some wedding feedback I just received…

I was very pleased to get the feedback below on the Weddings Online Forums this morning:

Here is a transcript and a link to the original post:

Ok, had my wedding in September and always said I would do feedback (good or bad) on all my suppliers after the event. Better late than never I suppose So I’m starting with my photographer Peter Neill:

Peter is based in Dublin but travels nationwide. Actually Peter was recommended to me by another Wollie on this site.

His prices are great compared to other photographers and his work is fantastic. I got a photobook style album which I absolutely love and include 85 photos of the day - I got quoted twice the price for the same package from some other photographers. You can see a sample of his work on his website:

http://www.peterneill.eu/

He travelled to my home to meet me a couple of months before the wedding and he went through everything with me. I found him extremely professional and obliging. I gave Peter a list of all the photos I wanted - I was not disappointed. He missed nothing on the day. In fact, he gave me all 500 or so photos on cd do use as I wish - this does not happen with a lot of other photographers.

Peter arrived in Co. Clare the night before our wedding. I brought him to the location that I wanted most of the posed shots taken. He arrived at the house at 11am the following morning to take the preparations. He then went to the church at 1pm to take the guys before the ceremony (started at 2pm). I actually had 2 locations after the church where I had photos taken and Peter was very happy to do that. We were still back at the hotel only an hour or so after the church and had gotten all the shots I wanted. He then took mostly candid shots in the hotel for the drinks reception, meal and stayed well into the latter hours when the dancing started. I have had numerous guests mention to me on how great they thought Peter was on the day. It never felt like it was just another day or another job for him. I think Peter really enjoyed himself which puts everyone at ease and it shows in the photos.

I received 5 copies of a DVD slideshow he put together to music, 5 copies of the cd of all of the photos he took on the day and a photobook style album. Peter was doing a special offer at the time so I got this package for €1100 (including travel). Although his normal price was also very good.

From my experience with Peter I would definitely reccommend him to anyone looking for a reasonably priced photographer without having to compromise on quality of work and a more limited package with someone else.

Feel free to pm me for more info.

I was printing some wedding pictures today at a friends printing company when Holly ( who is a singer ) arrived to print some music CDs and out of the blue they had an idea to get me to do a promo shoot for her CD. It was a great shoot. Here is one of the shots. Some more are here:

Who took them is unknown and they are from a mixture of locations including India, Korea and somewhere in Africa. It seems that the person who took them was working with the Mission to Lepers.

Wedding Day Tips

Just a few quick wedding day tips relating to photography to anyone engaged out there:

1. In the morning, if you are having getting ready photos, consider having your photographer arrive a little earlier, so you can get candid pictures during the morning. These really capture the atmosphere of the day and if your photographer is easy going (which I am!), can be a great way to get you relaxed with them before the actual wedding starts.

2. When you are walking up the aisle, leave enough of a gap between the last bridesmaid and yourself so the photographer can a clear shot of you coming up the aisle.

3. In relation to the ceremony, consider the position of the bridesmaids and groomsmen and if where they are standing will obstruct the view of the photographer during the critical moments of the ceremony!

4. Talk to the priest or whomever is doing the ceremony well before the wedding day. Do they have a policy toward photographers? What do and don’t they allow, like a flash for instance if the church is poorly lit? Your Photographer should in a tactful and respectful way talk to the priest before the service in order to put them at ease and allay any fears of the photographer jumping all over the place etc! (My father is a Church of Ireland bishop, so I’m very aware of church related etiquette!)

5. Ask one of the bridesmaids or groomsmen or a friend to assist the photographer in gathering the various people for the group photos. This will make everything run very smoothly as they know who everyone is and means you spend less time having your photos taking and more time relaxing with your friends and family.

6. Make sure you get on with your photographer before the day, if you do not get on, it will show in the photos. If the photographer is easy to get along with and actually adds to your day, the smiles in the photos will be a lot more real!

7. Make sure to ask your photographer to take lots of candid shots after the service while you are greeting your guests coming out of the church and also during the evening. These really make an album and capture a mood and sense of warmth that no other type of photo can.

8. Ask your photographer for digital originals of images, including ones that almost made the album! Your photographer may charge extra for this, it depends on how much work they have done on the photos in question etc, but its no harm to ask. I tend to give these out for free, but others may not, it just depends how their business is setup and if they pay others to do processing work etc.

I hope the above is of use to you whether you hire me as your photographer or not! Those of you whom are already married, feel free to add any suggestions you wish in the comments.
